Yoga Posture Practice as Self Enquiry Workshop
04.01. - 05.01.2014Yoga posture practice is a very popular activity in the west these days. In the encounter between this Indian spiritual tradition and the rational scientific west, the western mind has evaluated yoga posture practice in terms that it understands, measurable qualities, such as strength and flexibility, perceiving yoga as a form of archaic discipline to improve the human being, a means to perfect the self. This inevitably leads to YPP(yoga posture practice) being sen in terms of goals for self improvement. The goal orientated focus of self improvement is the overt face of dissatiafaction with what is, an expression of turning away from what we actually are in the moment, in YPP this turning away leaves the inherent vulnerabilities of the body (the joints) vulnerable, within the often challenging shapes of yoga posture practice this is a deep invitation to injury, and ironically undermines the goals of self improvement.
Self enquiry is simply paying attention to what is, in yoga posture practice the sensations being generated in and as your body. Over the course of this workshop we will explore self enquiry in YPP using the dynamic yoga method as created by Godfrey Devereux (www.dynamicyoga.com), feeling and responding to the sensations being generated as you move through simple ullolas you will be invited to discover the deeply nourishing delight that is your body and as you continue on this journey into the deliciousness of being you will find your strength, flexibility concentration etc effortlessly and enjoyably improving with out any need for aggression or ambition.
